Lillian-Verne Andrews
It is with great sadness that we bid farewell to our mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was preceeded by her loving husband, Walter (Wally) and an infant son, her parents and all eight of her siblings.
Verne was a fisty lady who loved a immaculate home, took many cooking classes to enrich families life. Verne was a social butterfly who loved to have parties, entertain and was always the perfect host.
Growing up Verne was the youngest child and with four older sisters. She was always dressed to perfection. Her wedding gown (23 inch waist) was a designer edition not common at that time. Verne loved fashion, clothes and make up doing her hair in curlers daily and her make up constantly. Over the years she would change her hair color to match the fashion seasons. Red, brown or blonde, the family never knew what to expect.
As a couple they joined the Regina trailer club, meeting new friends and going places around Regina. Mom never learned to drive until her husband passed away she was about 64.
She volunteered over the years at senior homes and later worked though the hospitals in the pallative care cancer centre to assist dying patients to cope with end of life. As her husband died of cancer. We were told that Mom received recognition for her volunteer efforts.
Verne had lived at Lee Crest in Cardston for 9 ½ years. Over that time as she changed and got to know and love the staff members, appreciating the love and care that they gave her. Many times in the past she was a pain to staff with her antics. But kept the staff on their toes with her humor.
In her final hours she was a volunteer and was able to teach a group of students about end of life care.
Striving with her wishes she will be cremated (finally being warm.)
Interment with her husband at Riverside Memorial Cemetery, Regina, Saskatchewan will be at a future date.
